Trump claims Russia and Ukraine agreed to stop attacks on energy facilities; Zelenskyy taken by surprise

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the U.S. digital news outlet Axios today that he was surprised by U.S. President Trump’s announcement that Russia and Ukraine had reached an “energy ceasefire.”

According to Axios reporter Barak Ravid, Zelenskyy stated: “The news of the ceasefire announcement came as a surprise to me. But if Russia agrees to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree as well.”

Zelenskyy said: “If Trump has already discussed this with Putin—please tell us when the ceasefire begins—we are ready, and we will accept it.”

Earlier today, Trump stated in a brief announcement that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure, though he did not provide further details.
