Trump once claimed that ammunition was virtually unlimited

Two weeks ago, U.S. President Trump stated that the United States possessed “virtually unlimited” ammunition and sharply criticized reports of shortages; Defense Secretary Hegseth also denied that U.S. ammunition stockpiles were strained. However, on the 14th, the Pentagon Inspector General released the first report on the U.S.-Iran conflict, indicating that the hostilities had depleted critical U.S. ammunition reserves and that replenishment efforts were facing supply chain “bottlenecks.”

NBC News and CNN had previously reported on the conflict. The report, submitted by the Pentagon Inspector General at the request of Congress, covers the period from the outbreak of hostilities on February 28 through June 30. It is among the first publicly released government documents detailing the scope and scale of this U.S.- and Israel-led conflict with Iran, as well as the associated costs incurred by the U.S. military, the State Department, and other agencies.
